302HQ is a stainless steel product with an excellent combination of comprehensive properties, including physical, mechanical, thermal, corrosion resistant and welding performance. It is suitable for a variety of components and parts to resist heat-treatment and corrosion. 302HQ components often meet the microstructure grade standards of 302HQ (UNS S30430), which is mainly composed of iron, nickel, chromium, manganese and trace elements, such as molybdenum and copper. Due to the addition of molybdenum and copper, it has better overall corrosion resistantability than austenitic stainless steel, particularly pitting and crevice corrosion.

The main characteristics of 302HQ are as follows:

Physical characteristics: It has a better combination of physical properties than other austenitic stainless steel. It has high tensile strength, good workability and thermal conductivity.

Thermal characteristics: Due to its high chrome content, 302HQ has good thermal stability, oxidation endurance and heat-resistant unmatched by other grades of stainless steel.

Mechanical properties: The mechanical properties of 302HQ are produced by cold deformation, quenching, and precipitation hardening, which can increase the strength and hardness of the metal.

Welding performance: 302HQ has excellent welding performance. It is suitable for welding process of all welds, such as TIG, MIG and manual arc welding.

Corrosion resistance: 302HQ has good corrosion resistant performance and is suitable for various types of corrosive environments.

Aging performance: 302HQ has good aging performance and can be used in high temperature aging environment.

AISI 302HQ, UNS S30430, is an austenitic stainless steel based on the standard 18-8 with added element of Cu. It has excellent deep-drawing properties and improved corrosion resistance performance.

AISI 302HQ stainless steel is a versatile material. It offers good mechanical properties, excellent deep-drawability, improved oxidation resistance performance, formability and weldability, and reasonably high strength values. It is non-magnetic, but work hardening may make it weakly magnetic in thin sections.

Designated as UNS S30430 and Werkstofnr 1.4371, AISI 302HQ is a hardenable stainless steel with good forming and welding characteristics. The alloy contains slightly less chromium than the forerunners, thus making it qualify as a type of 302. Its chromium content ranges between 17.50 - 19.50% and Carbon content ranges between 0.0200 - 0.0500%, while Iron content is ranging between 68.00 - 77.00%.

The added Cu content in the alloy gives improved corrosion resistance performance, which makes it ideal for applications that require use in mildly corrosive environment. It has good weldability by conventional process and produces better tensile strength as compared to type 305 stainless steel.

Due to its affinity for deep-drawing, it is mostly used for automotive applications, kitchen tools, medical instruments, architectural components, and environmental engineering.

AISI 302HQ can easily be machined in the annealed condition or in the condition of hardness. It is recommended to use sharp, high speed tooling that is not allowed to be overheated. The alloy exhibits good resistance to cavitation damage, making it suitable for piping systems, pressure vessels and pumps.
