Classification of Stainless Steel Welding Materials

Stainless steel welding materials are widely used in a variety of fields due to their simplicity and efficiency, such as various mechanical parts, various components of chemical pipelines, and so on. In this article we will discuss the classification of stainless steel welding materials.

Stainless steel welding materials are mainly divided into four categories: wire and electrode, strip, pipe and fitting, and welding accessories.

1. Wire and electrode: The wire and electrode are widely used as the electric welding material for stainless steel. It is divided into a variety of types. According to the joint form, it is divided into a flux-cored wire, bare electrode, stick electrode, and TIG welding top electrode; According to the raw material of the welding wire, it is divided into stainless steel wire, Ni-base alloy wire and low-temperature carbon steel; According to the chemical composition of the flux-cored wire, there are two types of rutile type and basic type where the composition of the rutile type is higher than that of the basic type. The welding effect of the rutile type flux-cored wire is better than that of the basic type. There are three classification of Flux-Cored Wire (FCW)gas-shielded (FCAW-G) and flux-cored arc welding self-shielded (FCAW-SFCAW-G and FCAW-S) and flux-cored arc welding with shielding gas (FCAW-G).

2. Strip: The weldability of stainless steel strip is higher than that of the wire. The application of stainless steel strip may be lower than that of wire, but the welding device for welding strip metal is simple, high-precision and fast, which makes it widely used in industrial and electronic welding fields. Stainless steel strip is divided into high-heat grade stainless steel strip, single-phase austenitic stainless steel strip and duplex stainless steel strip according to the metal type.

3. Pipe and fitting: The pipe and fitting used for stainless steel welding are mainly welding pipes, elbows, tees, reducing pipes and so on. Pipes and fittings used for stainless steel welding must meet the requirements of product specifications and standard.

4. Welding accessories: Welding accessories such as nozzles and contact tips are necessary for the welding of stainless steel. Because the stainless steel is not easy to be molten, the nozzles used in stainless steel welding need to have better thermal conductivity, good wear resistance and low softening temperature. The contact tips also need to have good wear resistance, since the contact tips are liable to wear during the welding process.

In conclusion, stainless steel welding materials can be divided into wire and electrode, strip, pipe and fitting, and welding accessories according to their characteristics and application. With the rapid development of science and technology, the demand for stainless steel welding materials is also increasing continuously. Therefore, it is of great significance to select the suitable stainless steel welding materials for the welding projects.

Stainless steel welding materials are divided into four categories according to their characteristics and applications.

1. Ferritic stainless steel: It has good cold-forming properties and existing rust prevention performance. It is suitable for thin plates and parts which are required to have a beautiful surface and high plasticity.

2. Martensitic stainless steel: It has better strength and heat-resistance than ferritic stainless steel, and can be used in the welding parts having a demand for good strength and wear resistance, such as thinning thin plates, dies and valves.

3. Austenitic stainless steel: This type of stainless steel has excellent rust prevention, high plasticity and good strength, so it is mainly used for making thicker plates and parts.

4. Duplex stainless steel: This stainless steel has the advantages of both ferritic stainless steel and austenitic stainless steel, so it can be used for making large thin plates, pipeline systems, pressure tanks and shipbuilding.

In conclusion, stainless steel welding materials can be roughly divided into these four categories according to their characteristics and applications. Each type of stainless steel has its own advantages and disadvantages, so the choice should be based on the specific production requirements.
