AS/NZS 1449/2-1983 Thick plate, Sheet and Strip-Part 2: Mechanical Properties of Stainless and Heat Resisting Steel Thick Plate, Sheet and Strip

AS/NZS 1449/2-1983 is an Australian Standard for the mechanical properties of stainless and heat resistant steels for thick plates, sheet, and strips. The standard contains requirements for the determination of the mechanical properties of the various grades of stainless steel and heat-resisting steel. It also establishes test methods for the verification of these properties.

This standard specifies the properties to be used in selecting or selecting and limiting the mechanical properties of the various grades of stainless steel and heat-resisting steel thick plates, sheet, and strips. The grades of stainless steel and heat-resisting steel covered by this standard are identified by the steel type and corresponding grade number, as defined in AS/NZS 1449-1996.

This standard applies to thick plate, sheet, and strip of stainless and heat-resisting steel, supplied in cold- and hot-rolled condition. Grade designations are as specified in AS/NZS 1449-1996.

This standard sets out requirements for the mechanical properties of stainless and heat resistant steel thick plates, sheet, and strips. The mechanical properties required to be tested are: tensile strength; yield strength; elongation; cold-worked hardness; contents of non-metal inclusions; impact strength; and fatigue strength. The minimum values of each of these mechanical properties must be specified for each grade and condition. Testing methods used to verify the properties must be complied with.

This standard specifies the method of testing to verify mechanical properties. The method consists of testing a test piece taken from a sample of the material. Test results must comply with the minimum values specified. Test pieces and specimens must be machined in accordance with the requirements specified, and testing procedures must comply with the specifications and procedures prescribed in this standard.

This standard also sets out procedures for assessing and classifying the mechanical properties of thick plate, sheet, and strip of stainless and heat-resisting steel. Testing and classification systems are provided for thicknesses up to 4mm.

The standard is intended to be used by those responsible for selection and specifying the mechanical properties of stainless and heat-resistant steel thick plates, sheet, and strips. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

简介

This standard is part 2 of the Steel Plate, Strip and Sheet (AS 1449-1983). It applies to hot-rolled steels of ferritic, austenitic and martensitic stainless steel grades and their equivalent heat treatable grades, as well as austenitic and ferritic heat treatable steels classified as steels with higher temperature range. It also applies to strip and sheet in width not exceeding 800 mm and thickness not exceeding 32 mm.

This standard specifies the mechanical properties of the steel plates, strips and sheets made from ferritic and austenitic stainless steels, including the tensile strength, yield strength, elongation at break and hardness. The steel plate, strip and sheet is classified into different grades based on the specified mechanical properties. The physical properties, such as the surface finish, inside surface defects and coating properties, are not covered by this standard.

This standard is essential for engineers who are designing products with sheets of stainless steel. It allows engineers to quickly and accurately identify the mechanical properties of the sheet material and ensure it can withstand the stress enforced by the design. Moreover, it provides an efficient and cost-effective way of obtaining quality materials. Therefore, this standard is important for manufacturers and other stakeholders involved in the engineering of stainless steel products.
