00Cr21Mn5NiN is a low alloy dual-phase stainless steel with a rust resistance similar to that of the 300 series austenitic stainless steel. 00Cr21Mn5NiN is also referred to as DP600 steel and is a Ferrite plus austenite (F+A) stainless steel commonly used in railway vehicles and automobile components.
Chemical Composition
The chemical composition of 00Cr21Mn5NiN steel is displayed in Table 1. This steel’s principal components are chromium and iron, which account for 18.2% and 97.2% of the material’s weight, respectively. This steel also contains small amounts of manganese, nickel and carbon. Manganese and nickel are added to improve the corrosion resistance of the steel, while carbon and nitrogen are present as residual elements in the 00Cr21Mn5NiN steel.

Microstructure of 00Cr21Mn5NiN Steel
00Cr21Mn5NiN steel has a microstructure composed of ferrite and austenite grains, as can be seen in Figure 1 through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examination. The average microstructure consists of about 70% ferrite, 20% austenite and 10% inter-granular carbides. The ferrite grains in 00Cr21Mn5NiN steel are large and elongated, while the austenite grains exist as small and uniform particles distributed throughout the microstructure. Notably, the ferrite grains have a slightly coarser microstructure than the austenite grains.

Usage of 00Cr21Mn5NiN Steel
00Cr21Mn5NiN steel is a dual-phase steel and is often used in applications that require both high strength and good corrosion resistance. This is because 00Cr21Mn5NiN steel combines the toughness of ferrite with the higher corrosion resistance of austenite. Due to its dual-phase properties, 00Cr21Mn5NiN steel is commonly used in the manufacture of railway and car components, including wheel tires and wheel discs. Additionally, 00Cr21Mn5NiN steel can also be used to make industrial blades, pumps, and valves.
Conclusion
00Cr21Mn5NiN steel is a rust-resistant, low-alloy dual-phase stainless steel. It consists of 18.2% chromium and 97.2% iron, as well as small amounts of manganese, nickel, carbon and nitrogen. The microstructure of 00Cr21Mn5NiN steel consists of 70% ferrite, 20% austenite, and 10% inter-granular carbides. 00Cr21Mn5NiN steel is largely used to make railway and car components, as well as industrial blades, pumps, and valves.
