The raw molybdenum ore is usually loaded into a molybdenum roasting kiln. The loaded molybdenum ore is heated to a temperature of 900-1300℃. During this high temperature heating, the ore is continuously oxidized in the oxygen-rich atmosphere to form oxidation products.

The oxidation of molybdenum ore usually occurs mainly on the surface and in the crevices of the ore. Through certain heat transfer ways, the heat of the oxidation layer is transferred to the deeper internal, making the oxidation of the entire molybdenum ore gradually completed from the surface to the interior. The main oxidation products of molybdenum in the process are MoO2, Mo2O3, MoO3, and superimposed on these oxides there are various mixtures of oxides and sulfuric H2S.

To ensure the quality of the finished product, the oxidation of molybdenum ore should be uniform and thorough. Only by guaranteeing the oxidation uniformity of molybdenum ore, can we ensure that the finished product qualifies for the next processing process.

The roasted molybdenum ore after the oxidation reaction is then decomposed and broken, crushed and selected to remove the remaining sulfur and non-metallic elements and undesirable minerals in the ore. The finished molybdenum ore can be used for smelting, casting and deep processing. The selected molybdenum powder product can be used for the manufacture of electrical components and chemical catalysts.

Hummocky ore roasting process is an important link in the whole molybdenum smelting process. It is not only crucial to the quality of the ore and the quality of the product, but also provides an important key to separating the associated elements and further processing them. For example, fine ore roasting process is commonly used in the extraction of copper, zinc, lead and other associated elements in molybdenum ore dressing.
