Standard Comparison of Stainless Steel Thickness Tolerance of Common Related Countries

In the manufacturing of stainless steel products, the thickness tolerance is an important indicator of product quality. Different countries have different standards for the thickness tolerance of stainless steel. In this paper, we compare the standards of stainless steel thickness tolerance and related regulations of some common related countries, so that users can better understand the thickness tolerance standard of stainless steel of different countries.

First of all, lets introduce the stainless steel thickness tolerance standard of the United States. The stainless steel produced by the United States has a thickness tolerance of 0.3-3.2mm≤1.0mm, ≥3.2mm≤6.4mm, the smaller the outside diameter tolerance (OD) of the stainless steel tube, the more stringent the refraction. At the same time, the American Stainless Steel Association (AISI) stipulates that the thickness of stainless steel sheet with a width of less than 610mm should be between 2.3mm-5.5mm, and the standard stainless steel plate thickness is 0.024in-0.1875in (0.6-4.76mm).

The thickness tolerance standard of stainless steel in the United Kingdom adopts BSEN10058 as the tolerances standard for hot-rolled and cold-rolled stainless steel plates, sheets, strips and bush-hammered plates. The cold-rolled stainless steel sheet and strip with a thickness range of 0.5mm~3.0mm are generally designed with a deviation of 0.3mm, and of 3.0mm~6.0mm with a deviation of 0.4mm. Due to the manufacturing and processing of products, cold-rolled stainless steel sheets and strips of different thicknesses and sizes still require different tolerance ranges, which are specified in several BS standard components.

In addition, the thickness tolerance of stainless steel in Germany is also very strict. By German standard, EN 10051 specifies the deviations of hot-rolled steel plates, sheets and strips. According to the standard requirements, the deviation of stainless steel plate less than 3mm should be 0.5mm; the deviation of stainless steel plate between 3mm and 6mm should be 0.7mm. Comparable deviations of hot-rolled steel plates, sheets and strips are also regulated by EN 10051, which is an international standard recognized by European Union countries.

In Russia, the thickness tolerance standard for stainless steel based on GOST standard is 0.2-3.2mm ≤0.7mm, 3.2-6.4mm ≤1.0mm, 6.4-50mm ≤1.4mm, 50-100mm ≤2.0mm. GOST has the most complete standard system in Russia and CIS countries, and is also the basis for quality inspection and supervision.

The French stainless steel thickness tolerance standard is relatively strict. The stainless steel thickness tolerance range is separated into 0.2mm-3.2mm and more than 3.2mm. The deviation of stainless steel plate with thickness of 0.2mm-3.2mm is ±0.1mm, and the thicker plate is ±0.5mm or ±0.8-1mm. Also, in accordance with French standards, the stainless steel plate used for different parts also has certain thickness deviations.

Italy also has its own stainless steel thickness tolerance standard, which is regulated by UNI EN10051. According to the standard, the deviation of stainless steel with different thickness are specified as follows: 0.2mm-3.2mmDeviation is 0.3mm; 3.2mm-6.0mm-0.5mm; 6.0mm-12.0mm-0.8-1mm; 12.0mm-25.0mm-1.0mm; 25.0mm-50.0mm-1.5mm; 50.0mm or above-2.0mm.

In summary, the thickness tolerance of stainless steel in different countries is not the same. Each country has its own corresponding standard, which must be followed in order to ensure product quality. We have compared the stainless steel thickness tolerance standard and its related regulations of some common related countries here, and we hope it will be helpful for users to select products.

Stainless steel is a popular material used in a variety of domestic and international applications. As such, there are a number of national and international standards that govern the specifications, sizes and tolerances of stainless steel materials.

British Standards

In the UK, the British Standards Institution (BSI) provides the most commonly used standard for specification of stainless steel. BS EN 10088-2 is the main standard for stainless steel sheet and plate, Bars and sections and provides a reference to the nominal thickness, tolerances and other physical properties.

American Standards

ASTM is the American Society for Testing and Materials and its standards are recognised and used for a variety of materials and materials applications. For stainless steel items, ASTM A276 and A240 are the primary standards. A276 covers specifications for Bar, Plate, Shapes and Tubing products, while A240 covers Sheet and Plate products. These standards set the requirements for shape and finished dimensional tolerances, as well as chemical composition and mechanical properties.

Chinese Standards

In China, the Chinese National Standard (CNS) is the accepted norm for stainless steel products. CNS 1504 is the most widely adopted standard, setting the standars for sheet and strip sizes and dimensional tolerances.

Japanese Standards

The Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) are the accepted classification and standards system for a range of materials and products, including stainless steel items. The primary stainless steel standards for JIS are JIS G4305 for cold-rolled products, and JIS G4303 for hot-rolled products. These standards provide specifications for chemical composition, hardness, shape and dimensional tolerances.

European Standards

The European Norm (EN) is a standardisation system that provides the technical details and specifications for materials, components and products used throughout Europe. Standard EN 10088-2 is the primary European Standard for stainless steel Sheet and Plate, Bars and sections and sets the requirements for shape, size and dimensional tolerances.

Overall, each nation has its own standardisation system that sets out requirements and tolerance ranges for stainless steel materials. It is important to avoid confusion between these standards and be sure that the right standard is being referenced and used.
