Physical Properties of 3Cr13Mo Martensitic Chrome Stainless Steel

3Cr13Mo Martensitic chrome stainless steel is a chromium-containing stainless steel that contains molybdenum as an alloying element. It is a martensitic stainless steel which is a type of steel which can be heat treated to create a hardened and hardenable steel with a wide range of mechanical properties. 3Cr13Mo martensitic chrome stainless steel is especially valuable because it has a high corrosion and wear resistance while remaining particularly strong and ductile.

Physical properties of 3Cr13Mo martensitic chrome stainless steel depend largely on the alloying elements present, with chromium and molybdenum content playing the most significant role. Chromium contributes significantly to the corrosion resistance of the material, while molybdenum contributes to the material’s strength and hardness. The presence of both units results in a material which is tough and can provide high levels of wear resistance.

At room temperature, 3Cr13Mo martensitic chrome stainless steel has a density of 7.8 g/cm3. It has an ultimate tensile strength of 540-740 MPa, with an ultimate yield strength of 240-440MPa. It has an elongation at break of 30%. Its fatigue strength is 790-930MPa and its fatigue threshold is 560-680MPa. Its modulus of elasticity at room temperature is 193-210GPa. Its coefficient of thermal expansion (25-200℃ or 77-390℉) is 10.2×10-6K-1. 3Cr13Mo martensitic chrome stainless steel has a thermal conductivity of 16.8-18.3 W/(m·K) (at 100℃ or 212℉) and a specific heat capacity of 0.5-0.6 J/(K·g).

When hardened and heat-treated, 3Cr13Mo martensitic chrome stainless steel exhibits excellent mechanical properties. The material can have a surface hardness of up to 55 HRc, in addition to an excellent abrasion resistance. It is also highly resistant to corrosion and can withstand a variety of temperature fluctuations.

Additionally, 3Cr13Mo martensitic chrome stainless steel is highly resistant to stress-corrosion cracking. This is due to its martensitic structure, which significantly increases its resistance to such cracking compared to austenitic stainless steels such as 304 or 316 stainless steel. This type of stainless steel is also very resilient and can resist a wide range of stress fractures and tears.

Overall, 3Cr13Mo martensitic chrome stainless steel can provide a wide range of mechanical properties in a low-cost material, making it an ideal choice for a variety of applications. Its corrosion and abrasion resistance, combined with its toughness and strength, make it a valuable material for many industrial and manufacturing applications.
