Technological Properties of 00Cr13Ni5Mo Stainless Steel
Stainless steel 00Cr13Ni5Mo (ASTM DIN 00Cr13Ni5Mo) is a Martensitic stainless steel with a steady structure. It provides good corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance and thermal fatigue resistance, making it suitable for use in a variety of industries that have extremely demanding requirements. It is known for its versatility and has many advantages over other steels in terms of ductility, weldability, formability, and toughness.
The main chemical composition of 00Cr13Ni5Mo stainless steel is a mix of carbon, chromium, nickel and molybdenum. The carbon is especially important in the prevention of corrosion and oxidation, while the chromium is beneficial in providing better mechanical properties such as strength and toughness. The other two elements, nickel and molybdenum, are important in improving the stainless steel’s hardness, wear resistance, and exhibit excellent weldability.
The mechanical properties of 00Cr13Ni5Mo stainless steel can be seen in the table below:
- Yield strength (Rp0.2) of 205MPa
- Ultimate Tensile Strength (Rm) of 550MPa
- Elongation (%) of 16
- Impact toughness (AKV, ISO-V) of >38J
The low thermal conductivity of 00Cr13Ni5Mo stainless steel makes it an excellent material for components that may encounter rapid temperature changes or extreme temperatures. The thermal expansion coefficient of 00Cr13Ni5Mo stainless steel is 14.4 μm/m·K, which makes it an ideal material for use in applications that require parts that can resist temperature changes and maintain dimensional accuracy.
In terms of machining and fabrication, 00Cr13Ni5Mo stainless steel is often used in various applications that require weldability. It can be welded using multiple processes including MIG, TIG, and GTAW welding processes. It is usually welded in the annealed state, which helps reduce the risk of weld cracking and warpage.
When subjected to a salt spray test, 00Cr13Ni5Mo stainless steel displays good corrosion resistance and an excellent resistance to oxidation and pitting. The pitting and crevice corrosion resistance of this grade of stainless steel is excellent, with a minimum of 20 cycles before pitting is observed (ASTM G48). In addition, it is relatively non-reactive to mild alkalis, and can be used in environments with a pH between 4 - 8.
In conclusion, 00Cr13Ni5Mo stainless steel presents excellent properties in terms of corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability. Its low thermal conductivity and thermal expansion make it a great material for parts that may experience rapid temperature changes or extreme temperatures. The pitting and crevice corrosion resistance of this grade is also excellent, and it can be used in mildly alkaline environments.
