GB 8163-87 Seamless Steel Pipes for Fluid Transportation
This Standard specifies the technical requirements, size, shape, weight, technical performances, and related requirements of seamless steel pipes (hereinafter referred to as pipes) for fluid transportation. This Standard belongs to state specified standard which is recommended by the State Bureau of Quality Technical Supervision.
This standards applies to seamless steel pipes for general and technical purposes, such as water, aerial water, steam, compressors, oil pipelines and other pipelines with various liquids. Because of its wide range of application, it could be applicable to special seamless pipes with certain standard and requirements.
The steel pipes specified in this Standard, using manganese, carbon and other alloying elements, are divided into 10 grades according to their tensile strength (hereinafter referred to as grades), of which, grade 10 is commonly used. The carbon content is no more than 0.2% (including 0.2) in grade 10.
Steel pipes specified in this Standard, of which the continuous length should be no more than 12m. There are two types of specification for steel pipes, one is for the pipes of general purpose and another is for pipes for special purposes.
The pipes in general applications shall be manufactured by hot rolling or cold rolling, and with their respective diameter and wall thickness. The pipes for special applications shall be manufactured by mechanically expanding or cold processing with their respective diameter, wall thickness and length.
The pipe in accordance with this Standard shall be inspected as per the inspection and testing regulations of the country. The quality of the pipes shall be guaranteed by using the materials and technologies specified in this Standard.
The marking, packaging, transportation and storage shall be done in accordance with the specifications. The pipes shall be printed with the name of the factory, specification of the pipes, grade, length and performance level. The pipes shall be packaged in such a way so as to avoid their damage during transportation or storage.
The inspection and acceptance of the steel pipes shall be strictly monitored in accordance with the specifications. The pipes shall be examined for their dimensional accuracy. They shall also be tested for their mechanical properties, chemical inspection and performance of their heat treatment. The specified performance requirements shall be conformed to before the pipes are accepted for further use.
This Standard will be superseded by the Standard for the Quality of Seamless Steel Pipes for Fluid Transportation (GB/T 8163).
The products made in accordance with this Standard, which deviate from the Standards, regulations or requirements shall not be allowed to be sold outside the country.
