Offensive Support and Defensive Support Principles
The offensive support and defensive support principles are two primary elements of side wing warfare. These principles refer to the operations conducted by the side wing or flanks of a military force that are used in order to support the overall strategy and mission of the main force. These principles can be used in order to provide a greater strategic capability to a military force in order to gain victory in combat.
When considering the offensive support principle, it can be seen as the tactical principles that are based around support of the main attacking force. This principle would involve a military unit providing covering fire for the main force, as well as providing for reconnaissance and communication in order to identify the enemy and their positions. The offensive support could also involve the side wing conducting a pre-emptive strike on an enemy position in order to disrupt their operations. Other examples of offensive support from a side wing include providing additional firepower in an attempt to break through enemy lines, or the use of strategic tactics such as using air superiority to maintain air support.
The defensive support principle is similar to the offensive support principle in that it involves the use of the side wing to support the main force. However, in the defensive support principle, the support is aimed at reinforcing and protecting the main force from an attack by the enemy. This could include using the side wing to provide a covering force at critical points in the main force, or providing a secure communications network in order to coordinate the response to an attack. Additionally, defensive support could include providing defensive cover on the enemy side of the combat, in order to prevent the enemy from successfully breaching the defensive line.
Side wing warfare is a complex form of warfare and requires the implementation of both offensive and defensive principles in order to achieve success. These two principles are essential for achieving a successful outcome in combat, as each strategy requires the other in order to provide the optimal support for any given situation. By utilizing both of these principles, a military force is able to maintain a higher degree of tactical awareness and flexibility in order to maximize the effectiveness of its operations.
