Abstract:
2085 steel is a high manganese steel, which is widely used in the manufacture of high temperature service and pressure vessel applications. This paper aims to summarize the characteristics of 2085 steel and its application in the industry. Firstly, the composition elements and metallurgical properties of 2085 steel were introduced. Secondly, some typical mechanical properties of 2085 steel were discussed and compared with some other steels. Finally, some advantages, including excellent combination of strength, toughness and weldability, were addressed, as well as the application of 2085 steel in the pressure vessel were mentioned.
Introduction:
2085 steel is a high manganese steel, containing 0.2-0.4% carbon, 0.8-1.2% manganese, 0.05% nitrogen, 0.05-0.09% phosphorus, 0.015-0.035% sulfur, 0.05-0.25% silicon, 0.05-0.18% vanadium, 0.01-0.2% tungsten and 0.0005-0.003% boron. In casting and wrought mold, typical strength of 2085 steel is 600-800MPa. This kind of steel has excellent combination of strength and toughness, as well as good weldability.
Metallurgical properties of 2085 steel:
2085 steel has relatively strong metallurgical properties, such as high purity, good formability and excellent machinability. It is low in cost and stable in heat treatment, which can be used to produce various casting and forging products for various purposes.
Mechanical properties of 2085 steel:
2085 steel has high strength and toughness, and a good combination of weldability and cold formability. As for some specific mechanical properties, the yield strength of 2085 steel is below 800MPa and its elongation rate is around 10%. In addition, when compared with A3 steel, 2085 steel has less strength and higher yield stress. In comparison with 6027A steel, 2085 steel has higher yield stress, better impact properties and higher weldability.
Advantages of 2085 steel:
2085 steel contains a variety of metal elements, which makes it have excellent comprehensive mechanical properties, such as high strength and toughness, good weldability and cold formability. It can meet the requirements of various special applications. In addition, 2085 steel has good metallurgical properties, such as high purity, good formability and excellent machinability, which can reduce the cost of parts and improve the quality stability of parts.
Application of 2085 steel:
2085 steel is mainly used in pressure vessel applications. Owing to its high strength, good weldability and good temperature resistance, it is widely used in boilers, petrochemical industry fittings and pressure vessel components.
Conclusion:
2085 steel is a high manganese steel, with good weldability and cold formability, and good temperature and pressure resistance. It is mainly used in pressure vessel applications and has good metallurgical properties, such as high purity and excellent machinability. The characteristics make 2085 steel an ideal choice for manufacturing parts and components.
