Processing of the Billet

Processing of the billet depends on the requirement of the customers. Generally the billet is processed accordingly to make the correct sizing, shaping and finishing process to ensure that the processed billet meets the specifications of the customers.

In the sorting process the billet is prepared to be cut in an accurate manner. It is subjected to size control and a hot straightening method is normally used to reduce the length of the Billet or its average circumferencefor the next processing. The surface of the Billet is then inspected for any visible welding defects or surface defects. Any visible welding defects or surface defects are then removed.

After the billet is straightened and surface defects are removed, a carburizing process is done to make the surface stronger and to prevent it from cracking. After this the billet is cooled and further processed. If a high tensile strength is required then a heat-treating process is done such as normalizing, annealing, quenching, tempering and so on.

The final stage of processing of the billet is the finishing process. This process involves grinding, honing and polishing of the billet. This is done to give it a smooth finish. This ensures that the billet has a minimum surface imperfections and it is ready for use.

The billet is then sent for inspection and testing to ensure that it meets the required standards for processing. After this the products are packed and shipped to the customers.
