Counting System Design for Wooden Stick
Abstract
The automation of counting wooden sticks is a common problem faced by construction companies. Counting is essential to calculate the total cost and ensure accuracy of project. This paper proposed an appropriate counting system design for wooden stick with a camera and vision systems. The idea is to take the video of the wooden stick and the open source software to analyze the captured video, find out which objects is wooden stick, counts them and display the total number of sticks. This system can not only accurately count the wooden sticks, but also save time and cost.
Introduction
In the use of wooden sticks in construction, the correct calculation of the total number of sticks is very important, especially for project cost estimation. More accuracy in the counting means the more accurate quotation for the client. Currently, the manual process of counting wooden sticks is time-consuming and labor intensive. This traditional form of counting does not guarantee accuracy, thus, there is a need for an automated counting system for wooden stick to improve accuracy and efficiency of the process.
The Design of Automated Counting System
The proposed system is composed of two parts: camera and vision systems. The system starts with the camera part, which is used to take video of the wooden sticks. The best type of camera should be HD cameras or IP cameras to ensure clear and high- resolution video. Then the video is sent over the network and routed to computers to be processed. After getting the recorded video, the open source software is used to analyze the video and recognize the wooden sticks. Then it is able to count the total number of the sticks with the vision (artificial intelligence) technologies. Finally, the software will generate a report and a graph showing the count result.
Advantages
The automated counting system for wooden sticks has many advantages when compared to the traditional manual counting. First of all, it is fast and accurate. With the combination of camera and AI technology, the system is able to quickly count the wooden sticks without any manual labor and without fail. Secondly, it is cost- effective. The system requires an initial purchasing cost for cameras, but compared to the cost of manual labor and potential cost of incorrect counting, it saves great deal of time and money. Thirdly, it is a time-saving solution. With the automated system, the counting is done quickly and efficiently, saving the company a great amount of time.
Conclusion
In conclusion, an automation of counting wooden sticks is a common problem faced by construction companies. The proposed system is composed of two parts: camera and vision systems. With this system, it is able to quickly count the wooden sticks without any manual labor and without fail, saving the company a great amount of time and money. The system performs fast and accurate with camera and AI technology, making it easy and cost-effective in many aspects.
