The concept of a crane is centuries old and has enabled construction of some of the most iconic structures of our day. Ancient cranes were built using wooden beams and were specific to the type of task they were designed to fulfill. They were slow and lacked durable components, but served their purpose efficiently in those ancient days.

The 18th century saw a significant rise in the use of mobile crane technology. These cranes had the ability to move around and were employed in the construction of old bridges and factories. Steam powered steam cranes were a breakthrough in crane technology, enabling greater power and range with improved accuracy.

The 19th century revolutionized the industrial use of crane with the widespread use of electro-mechanical hoists and jib cranes. The cranes began to take on a new form and were used to carry larger weights and reach greater heights. Electric cranes were used to build massive dams, bridge, and buildings.

The 20th century transformed crane design and capabilities.
