GB 3669-83 Alloy aluminum welding rods

Introduction

GB 3669-83 is an international standard of alloy aluminum welding rods. This standard is issued in 1983 and identifies the requirements for alloy aluminum welding rods for fusion welding. It plays an important role in all kinds of activities related to aluminum welding in China.

General

The standard contains the basic requirements for the composition, mechanical properties, chemical composition and surface conditions of alloy aluminum welding rods, as well as other related requirements. Those include, sizing and marking of the products and their storage. GB3669-83 applies to alloy aluminum welding rods for fusion welding. The main purpose is to ensure the welding performance, yet economic manufacturer of aluminum, aluminum alloys and their fusion welding.

Product Composition

The standards contains 8 categories for the production of alloy aluminum welding rods which take into consideration the various alloys used for welding. These alloys are classified on the basis of their chemical compositions. The melting and casting temperature for the type approved by the standard range from 600˚C to700˚C. The core and coating electrodes may also display mechanical properties in accordance with these standards. The characteristics of these electrodes are such that they approach the mechanical properties of unwelded aluminum alloys.

Mechanical Requirements

GB 3669-83 establishes the necessary mechanical properties of welding rods. The welding rods must have deposits of materials in accordance with the appropriate mechanical requirements which are related to how those materials are to be used, consequently achieving higher strength and weldability. Mechanical properties may alternatively be specified in the welding rod-making order or agreement.

Chemical Analysis

GB 3669-83 also describes the necessary chemical composition of the welding rods. This ensures that the welding rod used is consistent with that alloy of aluminum and its alloy. Requirements on chlorine, sulfur and other harmful elements are also included to secure the quality of the materials produced.

Surface Requirements

The technical requirements for surface quality of welding rods in accordance with GB 3669-83 are very important. The manufacturers must ensure that the surface is free from dust, grease, oxide and scale. Any oxide films must be as thin as possible and able to be removed by a light grinding.

Conclusion

Through the introduction of GB 3669-83, the performance and quality of alloy aluminum welding rods has been much improved. This standard helps to ensure better welding performance and higher strength, thus benefiting various aluminum and aluminum alloy fabrication works. This standard helps reduce costs in production and prolongs the service life of the welding rods, making the welding process more efficient. Overall, GB 3669-83 helps make aluminum welding safer and more reliable.
