35CrMoV Alloy Structural Steel

35CrMoV alloy structural steel is a chromium-molybdenum-vanadium alloy steel grade. It has high strength and toughness, good hardenability and tempering stability, good machinability and cold strain plasticity, and good weldability. It is suitable for quenching and tempering and can be used for manufacturing parts for carburizing and nitrified parts, turbine spindles, gears and shafts, pieces for petroleum and chemical machinery and heavy duty machines, etc.

The steel is produced to GB/T 3077-1999 standard, delivered in hot-rolled state, annealed and machined state, as well as hot-rolled+quenched and tempered state. Its symbol is 35CrMoV.

The chemical composition of 35CrMoV is elaborated as follows: C:0.29~0.37, Si:0.17~0.37, Mn:0.40~0.70, P<0.035, S<0.035, Cr:0.80~1.10, Mo:0.25~0.35, and V:0.10~0.15. According to forms of delivery, the technological state is represented by a special type of added letter at the end of the symbol.

For hot-rolled state, the technological state is represented by letter ’A’, annealed and machined state is represented by letter ’O’, and hot-rolled+quenched and tempered state is represented by letter ’QT’.

The distinct specifications of 35CrMoV alloy structural steel can be divided into its performance grade, tensile strength, yield strength, hardness, plasticity, and impact toughness.

Performance grades refers to the American standards for Proportional Limit Stress(δ_L) under different temperatures(θ). For θ<30℃, ASME SA-536 steel grades are SA-536 material grade C, D, E; while class A, B are used for the German standards(DIN 59110-1991). Tensile strength(σ_b) and yield strength(σ_s) refer to the ability of parts to withstand external force without deformation. Hardness(HBW) refers to the mechanical property of the material tested using Rockwell Hardness Tester in different states. Plasticity refers to the materials ability to withstand deformation force without fracture. And impact toughness(KV) is the resistance of the material to impact load by a hardened steel round bar of tensile strength and up to 110mm in diameter and a drop point of height(h).

35CrMoV is a kind of low alloy high strength steel composed with chromium, molybdenum, vanadium and other alloying elements. In China, it is commonly used for manufacturing forging pieces with medium and high strength. After special heat treatment, it can be used to produce pieces with excellent comprehensive mechanical properties, such as gas cylinder, piston pins, shafts, gear, etc.

The chemical composition of 35CrMoV is as follows: C: 0.32-0.40; Si: 0.17-0.37; Mn: 0.40-0.70; P: ≤ 0.035; S: ≤ 0.035; Cr: 0.80-1.10; Mo: 0.15-0.25; V: 0.15-0.25.
