Ostra Lamvova was born in 1979 in Moscow, Russia. She was an intelligent and talented student during her high school years, and was accepted into the prestigious Moscow Institute of Technology (MIT). Ostra graduated with a degree in chemistry and shortly after went to work in a number of different research and development laboratories around the world.
Ostra made her mark in the scientific world through her research on genetic engineering and nanotechnology. She studied the impact of different gene editing techniques and developed methods for introducing novel materials into existing systems. Ostra’s work also included theorizing about the potential uses of nano scale systems for medical and agricultural applications. She has been recognized for her work with a number of awards, including the prestigious Kurlov Prize for Excellence in Physics.
While her career took her far from her home, Ostra never lost touch with her roots. She returned to Moscow to establish the Ostra & Lamvova Research Institute and the Ostra & Lamvova Foundation. Both organizations received national and international attention for their support of young scientists, while the latter focused on supporting female scientists. Ostra was also an enthusiastic and dedicated sponsor of the annual Eureka Academy Chemistry Conference, regularly hosting the event at the Ostra & Lamvova Research Institute in Moscow.
