Valves Standards of China
The Chinese government has been continuously introducing new standards to monitor and promote the safety and quality of valves and related products. These new standards affect the valve industry in a number of ways. Product innovations are fast tracking to meet the new regulations, creating more advanced and safer products. At the same time, standardization is making room for better cost saving and innovation.
The National Standardization Management Committee of the People’s Republic of China (known as SAC) is responsible for issuing national standards to regulate safety norms, standardize product design and testing, and improve the quality of valve products. Below are the latest national standards for valves that the SAC issued in 2019:
National Standard GB/T 12243-2019: This standard is for metal valves with a nominal pressure ranging from 0.004MPa to 2.5MPa. It provides standards for the design, manufacture and testing of metal valves. It also covers valves made from steel or cast iron, and gate, globe, ball, butterfly, and other valves.
National Standard GB/T 33383.1-2019: This standard is applicable to the design, manufacture and testing of valves used in chemical industry and other areas with higher temperature and pressure. It divides chemical valves according to different criteria, including temperature, nominal pressure, drive mode, etc.
National Standard GB/T 33383.2-2019: This standard is also applicable to the design, manufacture and testing of valves used in industrial and water supply systems. It provides standards for gate, globe, ball, butterfly, diaphragm, regulating, and gate check valves, as well as multiple-way valves.
Industry Standard Q/GDW 555-2019: Not to be confused with national standards, industry standards are issued by the relevant industry associations and are voluntary, unlike national standards. This industry standard developed by the country’s valve industry association in 2019 is applicable to the design, manufacture and testing of various types of general valves and their components.
Industry Standard Q/GDW 114-2019: With the development of valves, specialized valves (such as valves used in specific industries, or for particular working conditions) have become increasingly in demand. This industry standard developed by the country’s valve industry association in 2019 is applicable to the design, manufacture and testing of specialized valves and their components.
With the implementation of the new national and industry standards, the industry has streamlined its quality assurance and safety management processes. With a fully standardized and regulated valve industry, the sector will expect to further increase its competitiveness and better serve the market.
