UNS S32760 Super Duplex Steel (austenitic-ferritic)
UNS S32760 (also known as Zeron 100, F55 and Alloy 32760) is a super duplex stainless steel composed of 25% chromium, 5% molybdenum and 7% nickel. It was created to combat common corrosion problems that austenitic stainless steel suffered. It is almost as resistant as a 9% nickel steel, while offering better strength and less susceptibleness to stress corrosion cracking than a standard austenitic stainless steel.
ADVANTAGES
UNS S32760 offers excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking, pitting and crevice corrosion. It has good weldability, toughness, and formability. It also provides higher strength than standard austenitic stainless steels, thereby allowing for workable design of thinner walled piping systems.
USES
This alloy has been used in many applications including emissions control components, seawater piping, desalination plants, heat exchangers, valves, components for oil spill recovery vessels, tankers, and offshore facilities, as well as in severe chemical processing environments and refinery equipment.
The high level of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen make UNS S32760 especially resistant to strong acids such as sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and nitric acid. It is also suitable for many applications that require high environment temperatures such as offshore-drilling platforms and subsea pipelines.
APPLICATIONS
UNS S32760 provides a wide range of applications due to its excellent corrosion resistance, strength and weldability. These include:
• Chemical Processing
• Seawater Piping
• Marine Applications
• Desalination Plants
• Heat Exchangers
• Emissions Control Components
• Valves and Components for Oil Spill Recovery Vessels and Tankers
• Offshore Facilities
• Subsea Pipelines
CONCLUSION
UNS S32760 super duplex stainless steel is a difficult to manufacture material offering excellent resistance to corrosion, strength, and weldability. These characteristics make it useful for a wide range of applications in severe conditions, from offshore-drilling platforms to desalination plants and valves.
