Coal is classified into four different industrial categories:

1. Thermal coal – Thermal coal is used in the production of electricity. It has a high energy content and is typically used in power plants to generate steam that is used to generate electricity.

2. Coking coal – Coking coal is also known as metallurgical coal and is used to produce coke, which is a fuel used in the steel making process. This type of coal has a low ash content, making it ideal for creating strong and durable steel.

3. Anthracite coal – Anthracite is the highest grade of coal and is the most expensive type. It is typically used in industrial or domestic heating systems, as it burns longer and produces less smoke and ash than other types of coal.

4. Sub-bituminous coal –This type of coal has a higher moisture content and lower energy content than other types of coal, but is often used as a fuel source for steam power generation in smaller power plants.

Coal is a versatile fuel source and can be used in many industrial processes. It is widely used as a fuel in cement production, as well as in flour, paper and brick production. It is also used in metal smelting and in the manufacture of chemicals.
