How to Clean a Whirlpool WTW4516FW Top Load Washing Machine

Regular cleaning of your top loading washing machine is important to keep it in good working order and to prevent dirt and grime buildup. If your Whirlpool WTW4516FW top loader has started to accumulate dirt and grime from frequent cycles, it is time to deep clean the appliance. Properly cleaning your Whirlpool will not only help to maintain its performance, but will also help to extend the life of the appliance.

Step 1 – Empty the Machine

Open the lid of the washing machine and remove any clothes from the machine. Make sure that all items have been removed before proceeding to the next step.

Step 2 – Disconnect the Hoses

Unscrew the hoses from the back of the washing machine. This will allow you to move the machine more easily and give you access to the inside of the machine.

Step 3 – Adjust the Cycles

Reset the cycles of the washing machine to the hottest water setting and longest cycle. This will allow the machine to use enough water and hot air to emit any residual dirt or grime that is stuck on the inside of the machine.

Step 4 – Add Cleaner

After the washing machine is set to the appropriate cycle, add a cleaner to the drum of the machine. You can use a special washing machine cleaner or a simple solution of 1/2 cup of bleach and 1/2 cup of detergent.

Step 5 – Clean the Dispenser

Remove the detergent dispenser from the washing machine and clean any buildup from it with a damp, soapy rag. Reattach the dispenser once it is clean and dry.

Step 6 – Run the Cycle

Close the lid of the washing machine and press the start button. Allow the machine to run the entire cycle before opening the lid again. While the cycle is running, be sure to remain in the same room as the machine. This will allow you to hear for any strange sounds or smells coming from the appliance.

Step 7 – Inspect the Drum

After the washing machine has finished its full cycle, open the lid and inspect the inside of the drum. If there is any remaining buildup or grime, allow the machine to run an additional cycle or two and repeat the inspection process.

Step 8 – Empty the Drum

Once the drum of the washing machine is completely clean, it is time to empty the appliance. Disconnect the hoses from the back of the machine, then tip the machine forward in order to remove any remaining water in the drum.

Step 9 – Clean the Exterior

Use a damp, soapy rag to wipe down the outside of the washing machine. Be sure to get into all of the grooves and angles to remove any dirt or grime that may have accumulated on the exterior of the machine.

Step 10 – Reattach Hoses

Reconnect the external hoses to the back of the machine, making sure that the hoses are properly secured. Turn on the water for the machine and check for any leaks before using the machine again.

In order to keep your Whirlpool WTW4516FW top loader in good working order, it is important to regularly clean the machine. Following these steps will help to ensure that your washing machine remains in good condition and runs properly for a long time.
