I study in a prestigious university, and my each lecture and activity is planned within the concept of 4M1E, or the four division of Management, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Engineering with one Energy piece to tie them together.
It all started with the four division of 4M1E that the university wanted to implement over the academic year and beyond. The idea was to enhance the organizations capabilities in all areas, while ensuring that the students of the university experienced a diverse discipline within their learning environment and ultimately achieved better career paths.
The first division of the 4M1E model was the Management division. The university wanted to introduce a comprehensive system of management within the university to help academics as well as students better understand the running of the university organization and put in place strategies for its continuous growth and success. This included introducing different management styles, and strategies for organizational leadership, customer service, project management, financial management and strategic planning.
The second division was the Manufacturing division that was to introduce the ideologies and tools of technology to bridge the gap between the organization and the changing global markets. Through this division, the university introduced different aspects of manufacturing to its students, such as Product Design and Development, Quality Management, Manufacturing Processes, Automation and Robotics, etc.
The third division was Marketing that focused on how to create and maintain good relationships with customers, how to market products and services to national and international markets, and how to best use available marketing tools. It also provided strategies on how to develop and make use of targeted strategies with digital campaigns, advertising, and promotions.
The fourth division was Engineering, which covered topics such as Process Design, Quality Assurance and Control, Safety and Risk Management, as well as issues related to the environment. Engineering provided students with the necessary knowledge and skills to understand the changing and dynamic global markets.
The fifth division, or the tying together ‘Energy component’ of 4M1E was the utilization of the other four components and the Eco-system of the university to create a synergy between the different disciplines that made up the university. The aim of this component was to develop a culture of community in the university, recognizing and utilizing the unique capabilities that each student and department within the university had to offer.
The 4M1E concept has not only played an important role in our university, but also had a huge impact in the industry by both giving the students the necessary knowledge and skills as well as nurturing the mindsets that would enable them to work in cross-disciplinary teams and be successful in the future.
My academic experience has been greatly enhanced thanks to the 4M1E concept, and I am forever grateful to the university for the knowledge, skills and capabilities that the 4M1E model provided me with. With 4M1E, I have gained knowledge and training in different fields and disciplines, as well as an increased confidence that I am well prepared for a successful career ahead.
