Germany Standard and International Standard, Chinese Standard English translation table

Germany and the international community have established various standards as part of their efforts to maintain order and consistency across many fields. China, in particular, has also developed a number of standards that it enforces within its borders. This article provides a brief overview of some standards developed by Germany, the international community, and China and their corresponding English translations.

Germany

Germany has established several standards, which are maintained by the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN). One of these is Germanys energy efficiency standard, called EnEV (Energieeinsparverordnung), which sets out the requirements for energy efficiency in buildings and other structures. The English translation of EnEV is Energy Saving Ordinance. Another standard that DIN maintains is Germanys eSafety standard, or “Deutsche Verordnung zur Erhöhung der Fahrzeugsicherheit”, which sets out the requirements for vehicle safety in Germany. The English translation of this standard is Regulation for the Increase of Vehicle Safety.

International Standards

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is responsible for international standards, which is an agreement established between member states for certain product, service, and system standards. For example, the ISO 9001 standard applies to quality management systems and its English translation is Quality Management System Requirements. The ISO 14001 standard is related to environmental management systems, and its English translation is Environmental Management System Requirements.

China

The Chinese government implements various standards within its borders, many of which are adhered to by all entities doing business in China. A few of the standards developed by China include the GB/T 25330 (General Standard for Intelligent Terminal Device), which specifies the requirements for intelligent terminal devices; the GB/T 15034 (GB 15034), which sets out the requirements for telecommunications engineering; and the GB/T 19092 (General Standard for Software Quality Management System), which sets out the requirements for software development and management. The English translations of these standards are respectively General Standard for Intelligent Terminal Device, Telecommunication Engineering Requirements and Software Quality Management System Requirements.

Conclusion

Germany, the international community and China all have established various standards for the purpose of maintaining order and consistency. This article has provided brief overviews of some of these standards and the corresponding English translations. It is important for those involved in international business to familiarise themselves with these standards, as compliance is often required to do business in certain countries.
