The company is based in Beijing and is involved in the production of iron, steel and other metals, as well as the manufacture of automobiles and ships.

Shougangs history dates back to 1919 when it was founded as the Beijing Metal Plant. Initially, the plant was only concerned with the production of iron and steel.
