Preparation of Safety Data Sheet of Hazardous Chemical
Safety data sheets (SDSs) are used to provide safety information in workplaces, essentially providing relevant information in advance enabling safe use of hazardous chemicals. Companies preparing chemical products or importing hazardous chemicals and selling them on the market must ensure that a SDS is prepared and available for chemical users. SDSs must be in the European Union (EU) language of the country in which the chemical is sold.
The aim of the safety data sheet is to ensure chemical safety and provide information on the potential hazards associated with the product, how to protect themselves from these risks, the storage and disposal of the product, emergency measures and first aid.
Chinese standards, chemical safety technical specifications Writing Specification (GB 16483-2000) is promulgated and put into effect by China State Administration of Quality Technical Supervision and Standardization Administration, is standardized Chemical Safety Technical Specification Writing Specification (GB 16483-2000) formulation. Its main contents are five sections in GB 16483-2000: scope, terms and definitions, outline of safety technical specification writing, basics of safety technical specification writing and instructions for using safety technical specification writing.
First, the scope (I)
This specification provides the method and requirements for the preparation of chemical safety technical specifications (hereinafter referred to as safety technical specification).
The second is the terms and definitions (II).
The term “safety technical specification” in this code refers to explanatory notes, warnings, or other textual descriptions that are connected with hazardous chemicals and are included in labels, safety data sheets and other sources of information.
Third, specification outline (III)
Safety data sheets must contain the following sections:
1. Identification
2. Hazard identification
3. Composition/Information on Components
4. First Aid Measures
5. Fire Fighting Measures
6. Accidental Release Measure
7. Handling and Storage
8. Exposure Controls/Personal Protection
9. Physical and Chemical Properties
10. Stability and Reactivity
11. Toxicological Information
12. Ecological Information
13. Disposal Considerations
14. Transport Information
15. Regulatory Information
16. Other Information
Fourth, fundamentals for writing safety data sheets (IV).
1. Preparations: Documents, such as chemical composition and hazard statement sheets, MSDS and other reference materials related to the product shall be carefully reviewed before the safety data sheets are prepared;
2. Completeness: All information required by Regulations or the above specification shall be included in the safety data sheets;
Third, technical specifications writing Rules (V).
1. Writing Specifications: Safety Data sheet shall be legible, concise and accurate. For normal times, it shall be written in Chinese. When necessary, multi-language explanations may be added;
2. Non-conforming Regulations and Standards: If the applicant considers that the product safety data sheet cannot meet the national or industry-specified standards, the product safety data sheet should be modified accordingly.
In conclusion, the main content of GB 16483-2000 has been elaborated in detail, so that we have an intuitive understanding of preparation of safety data sheet of hazardous chemical. To prepare chemical safety technical specifications, we must first understand the relevant contents of GB 16483-2000 and then make sure that the written chemical safety technical specifications meet the relevant requirements.
