China Electrical Science & Technology Research Institute
China Electrical Science & Technology Research Institute (CESTRI) is the largest research institute in China and the leading institution in china’s research, development and implementation of electrical sciences and technologies. It is one of the few Chinese research and development (R&D) centers of excellence focusing on energy and energy-related technologies. Regional offices of the institute are located in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.
CESTRI was established in 1965 with a primary focus on the research and development of electrical power technologies and applications. Over the past five decades, the institute has made marked advances in electrical technology and its applications. Components like circuit breakers and fuse-links, power electronics systems, digital turbine governors, and high voltage switching systems have been developed as well as direct current, high-frequency and low frequency power converters, high-speed motors, advanced control systems, and energy management systems have been developed for efficient energy utilization.
Additionally, the institute has also supported advanced technologies for the aerospace industry and industry in general, such as the research, development and testing of computer-controlled systems, permanent magnet motors, voltage-source inverters, and Ferroresonance Reducers (FES) equipment. The institute has also been involved in the research and development of many other new technologies such as Soft Magnetic Composite Materials, Non-destructive testing of insulation systems, and innovative autonomous energy management systems.
Aside from researching, developing and testing advanced electrical technology, the institute has also been actively involved in the international dissemination of knowledge through its conferences and research publications.
These include IEEE conferences such as the International Conference on Power Engineering (ICPE) and the IEEE Power and Energy Society Annual General Meeting (IEEE PESAGM) and international journals such as Energy Management and Renewable Energy, Applied Power Engineering, and Electromagnetic Dynamics.
In addition to its research activities, the institute also provides consulting services and training in the fields of power engineering, renewable energy, energy conservation, and energy management. Professor Zhang Hui is the current director of the institute. He is a professor in the department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University, where he received his Ph.D.
With the world’s population and energy needs escalating, CESTRI seeks to leverage the most advanced technology available for China’s continued economic growth and its energy challenges. The institute is determined to provide the highest quality engineering solutions in the areas of energy and electrical engineering and technologies.
