Elon Musk is one of the most successful entrepreneurs of our time. Born in South Africa on June 28th, 1971, he had a lifelong fascination with computers and technology. He earned two degrees in economics and physics from Stanford University in 1995.
Musk started off his career working at various start-ups in Silicon Valley before co-founding the web-based software company Zip2 with his brother. He then co- founded the online payment system PayPal, which was eventually acquired by eBay.
After departing PayPal, Musk invested heavily into his two pet projects: electric car company Tesla Motors and commercial space exploration company SpaceX. He wanted to use his business acumen and technological prowess to revolutionize modern transportation and space exploration.
Since then Tesla has become one of the most recognizable electric vehicle brands in the world, and SpaceX has made rapid progress in developing reusable launch vehicles and satellite communication networks. Through Musk’s leadership, Tesla has released multiple vehicle models to the public, including the ground-breaking Model S and Model X, and is developing a fully autonomous vehicle. SpaceX has pioneered unprecedented aerospace achievements like re-landing the first rocket stage ever successfully and achieving the first multi-planetary mission in history.
Inspired by his interests in environmental protection, Musk has launched several initiatives including the establishment of a massive solar energy array called the Tesla Gigafactory. This $5 billion project is designed to create renewable energy by harnessing the power of solar and storing it as electricity.
On top of this, Musk is also the CEO of two additional companies, Neuralink and The Boring Company. Neuralink aims to merge the human mind and machine intelligence, while The Boring Company is creating a system of underground tunnels to reduce traffic and congestion in cities.
Elon Musk has achieved all these successes while leading a lifestyle involving intense work and unpredictable events. He works from dawn till dusk everyday, and is famously known to take quick and crucial decisions in order to stay ahead of the competition.
