Abstract

This paper introduces the naming method for gas cylinder models, which is based on the standard GB 15384-94 of gas cylinders. By applying the naming method along with the classification of the standard, this paper presents a set of methods that can be used to designate a particular gas cylinder model. In addition, this paper also explains the relationship of the naming method and the national standard, the selection of the names, and the process of choosing the name for a certain cylinder model in order to facilitate further understanding for developers and end-users when using particular gas cylinders.

Introduction

Gas cylinders, or gas bottles, are pressurized containers used to store an inert gas in a safe, stable and easy way, and are widely used in many industrial and consumer applications. The standard named GB 15384-94 is a national standard related to the evaluation and quality control of the manufacturing and distribution of these containers. It defines the model classification, the shape and size of the gas cylinders, their filling contents and the safety requirements, in addition to their performance requirements.

The naming method proposed in the GB15384-94 standard is the first step in designating a particular cylinder model, before any other kind of classification is done.

Overview of Naming Method

The GB15384-94 standard provides a standard methodology for designating a particular cylinder model. The method establishes a set of conventions for the nomenclature of cylinder models. By taking into account these conventions and the classification of models, it is possible to provide a name to a certain gas cylinder.

According to the standard, the model name of each gas cylinder should be composed of six basic elements:

* Character: a character indicating the medium type (e.g. L for liquefied gas and G for gaseous gas);

* Pressure: a numerical value indicating the rated working pressure;

* Neck Style: a character indicating the cylinder neck style (e.g. A for internal or external threading);

* Material: a character indicating the material of the cylinder (e.g. C for carbon steel or S for stainless steel);

* Capacity: a numerical value indicating the maximum capacity;

* Standard: a character indicating the standard of the cylinder (e.g. S for advanced technology standard or O for ordinary standard).

Example

For example, one of the most widely used gas cylinders is the “LN1C-80S”. The “L” character stands for liquefied gas, the “N1” numerical value stands for the pressure of 1 MPa, the letter “C” stands for carbon steel, and the numerical value “80” stands for the maximum capacity in cubic centimetres and the letter “S” stands for the “advanced technology standard”.

Conclusion

This paper presents the naming method defined in the GB 15384-94 standard and its application in the designation of particular gas cylinder models. By taking into account the conventions of the naming method and the classification of the national standard, this paper presents a set of tools that allow the user to easily identify a certain model. In addition, this paper also provides an overview of the relationship between the naming method and the national standard, the selection of the name, and the process of choosing the name for a particular cylinder model. By understanding the principles of the naming method, it is possible to correctly interpret the designation of a certain model and thus accurately determine the characteristics of the cylinder for its intended purpose.
