Chinas Electrical Equipment Industry
China is one of the worlds largest producers of electrical and electronic equipments. In recent decades, China’s development of electrical equipment has been driven by an ever increasing demand both domestically and internationally. This has caused the average growth rate of China’s electrical equipment industry to exceed the global average, and even surpass the global average in some cases.
China is super dominant in terms of electrical equipment production and exports. China’s power-generation equipments and output accounted for about 36% of the world’s total in 2016, and China is the world’s leading exporter of electrical products and components.
The China Electrical Equipment Industry is overseen by the China Electrical Equipment Industry Association (CEEIA). This non-profit organization is responsible for the protection and promotion of the electrical equipment industry in China. CEEIA has also taken a leading role in the advancement of Chinese electrical equipment technological capabilities and standards. The association also acts as an international window for conducting of business, technology, and information exchange between China and other countries in the electrical equipment industry.
The CEEIA has actively developed close relationships with electrical equipment industry groups internationally, including in Europe, Japan, South Korea and North America and works toward promoting cooperate, exchange and standardization. With its partners, the association has been successful in bringing advanced techniques to China, which has in turn resulted in the development of advanced electrical, electronic andInformation Communication Technology products that meet international standards.
At the same time, China’s development in the electrical equipment industry isn’t without its challenges. The market’s rapid growth and the fact that much of the Chinese production is geared toward export sales has hurt the competitiveness of Chinese manufacturers in the domestic market. Additionally, the industry in China is relatively new, when compared to more mature electrical markets around the world, and this has caused Chinese manufacturers to lag behind in terms of advances in technology, the willingness to innovate and overall market experience.
Despite these challenges though, China’s electrical equipment industry is still growing steadily. The Chinese government’s commitment to the industry has been extremely encouraging, and the country’s importance in the global value chain is still increasing. With continued effort from the CEEIA, it is possible that China could experience an even more extraordinary growth trajectory over the next few years.
