II 42SiMn Steel Chemical Composition

The chemical composition of 42SiMn steel is: 0.37-0.44% of C, 1.15-1.50% of Mn, 0.17-0.37% of Si, 0.50-0.80% of Cr, 0.25-0.35% of Ni, 0.35-0.45% of Mo, and 0.40-0.55% of V.

42SiMn alloy structure steel is composed of material composition and quenching and tempering technical requirements. The material composition are C ≥0.32%, Si ≥1.1%, Mn≤1.2%, P ≤0.035% and S ≤0.035%, and the quenching and tempering technical requirements are: impact energy ≥ 64J, hardenability ≥ 165HBS and hardenability ≥ 25HBS.

The mechanical properties of 42SiMn alloy structure steel are as follows: tensile strength σb≥800MPa, yield strength σs≥680MPa, elongation rate δ5≥10%, reduction of area ψ≥45%, tougheness hook Kv≥47J, impact energry Akv≥64J.

The hardness of 42SiMn alloy structure steel after quenching is HRC 28-34. The hardness after tempering can be as low as HRC20-23. The good low alloy structure steel should be able to bear high impact load without fractu re or permanent deformation under normal working stress. It also has good weldability, which can be used to manufacture components with complex shapes.

The scope of application of 42SiMn alloy structure steel is mainly used for the manufacture of important machine parts which require large size and high strength, such as pressure vessels and molds for engineering.
