Maanshan Institute of Mining Research
Ma’anshan Institute of Mining Research is located in Ma’anshan city, Anhui Province, China. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ma’anshan Iron and Steel Group, one of the top ten steel enterprises in China. The institute has a long history as it was initially founded in 1949 as Ma’anshan Institute of Steel Research. In 1978, it was transferred to Ma’anshan Iron and Steel Group who changed its name to Ma’anshan Institute of Mining Research.
At present, the institute undertakes five major tasks – scientific research, technological development, consulting, personnel trainingand international cooperation. The staffs at Ma’anshan Institute of Mining Research have conducted a large number of researches on refining and smelting of iron and steel, energy conservation and environment protection, technology research and development, intelligent manufacturing, education and international exchange. This enable the institute to become a multidisciplinary knowledge service enterprise. Ma’anshan Institute of Mining Research is actively engaged in cooperation with universities and other research institutes both at home and abroad, thus making great contributions to the development of Chinas metallurgical industry.
In 2001, the institute was awarded “Research Institute of Ma’anshan Iron and Steel Group” by China Metallurgical Industry Corporation and became a part of it. In 2004, the institute’ s mining research center was evaluated as the provincial research center. In 2006, Ma’anshan Institute of Mining Research was certified as a graduate student practice base of Anhui Province. In 2007, China Metallurgical Industry Corporation evaluated it as a professional research institute.
Ma’anshan Institute of Mining Research has obtained one third place award, two second place awards and thirty seven first place awards in provincial science and technology award since its initial foundation. In 1983, its “Long-term Plan for Refining and Smelting Process of Steel” was recognized as the national excellent scientific research benchmark for metallurgical industry. In 2001, the institute was accredited as the national product technology center. It has also obtained Leading Construction Unit of Technology & Information from China Metallurgical Industry Corporation.
In recent years, Ma’anshan Institute of Mining Research has strengthened cooperation with universities, industry and foreign research institutes and made numerous achievements in scientific research. The striving efforts of its staff have enabled it to make great contributions to the metallurgical industry in China.
