High carbon graphite technology indicators

High-carbon graphite, also known as dense massive graphite or carbon graphite, is a kind of graphite characterized by its relatively high carbon content. It has strong load bearing capacity, low thermal expansion coefficient and stable chemical properties, and is mainly used in chemical, metallurgical and electric power industries as graphite heat exchanger, graphite hydrolytic reaction device and fireproof insulation material. In this paper, the technology indicators of high-carbon graphite are introduced in detail.

First of all, high carbon graphite has a high compressive strength. The compressive strength of ordinary graphite ranges from 10 MPa to 20 MPa, while that of high-carbon graphite can reach 25-30 MPa. It can be used for a long time under the condition of high load. The second technology indicator is the stability of the thermal expansion coefficient. High-carbon graphite has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, which is one tenth of that of aluminum, and its coefficient of thermal expansion has little change with temperature, so it is not easily broken and possesses excellent heat resistance. The third technology indicator is its corrosion resistance. The corrosion resistance of high-carbon graphite is extremely strong, and it resists various chemical media, acids and alkalis, and even some concentrated hydrofluoric acid at normal temperature. The fourth technology indicator is its permeability. High-carbon graphite has small permeability rate and can be used for gas sealing.

The above four technology indicators are common characteristics of high-carbon graphite. In addition, there are also other characteristics such as high temperature resistance and low electrical resistance. High-carbon graphite has excellent oxidation resistance and high temperature strength, which is stable up to 3000 ℃, and can maintain its physical and chemical properties at a temperature of 3000 ℃. The electrical resistivity of high-carbon graphite is only 1/6-1/8 of that of copper, so it can be applied in high current (DC) occasions to increase the current.

In summary, high carbon graphite has the characteristics of high compressive strength, low thermal expansion coefficient, strong corrosion resistance, small permeability rate, high temperature resistance and low electrical resistance, which makes it the preferred material in chemical, metallurgical and electric power industries, and can be used to manufacture graphite heat exchanger, graphite hydrolytic reaction device and fireproof insulation material.
