Natural Diamond
Diamond is a rare and precious gemstone that has been admired for centuries. It is considered one of the hardest materials on earth and is made up of pure crystallized carbon. Natural diamonds are formed deep within the Earths mantle, and have a unique chemical composition and crystal structure that give them their unique properties.
Natural diamonds come in a wide variety of colors, shapes and sizes. They vary significantly in clarity, with some being almost entirely transparent, while others appear cloudy and opaque. The carat (ct) size of a diamond is also used to measure its size and weight, with 1ct equal to 0.2g.
The majority of diamonds used in jewelry are either mined or manufacturted. Natural diamonds are mined from the earth, typically in areas such as Africa or India. These rough diamonds are then cut and polished to bring out their maximum brilliance and sparkle.
The majority of diamonds used commercially are created in laboratories through the process of high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) treatment. This involves exposing a rough diamond to high temperatures and pressures, which results in the growth of diamond crystals. This process is used to create diamonds for items such as drill bits and saw blades.
Natural diamonds are highly sought-after for its rarity and beauty, and are often found set in pieces of jewelry. Its natural strength and hardness make it one of the most popular gemstones for engagement rings and other pieces of fine jewelry. Diamonds are also a very sought-after gemstone in many cultures around the world, representing eternity and purity.
The value of a diamond is determined by its 4C’s – clarity, color, cut, and carat weight. Diamonds of higher carat weight, excellent clarity, and an ideal cut are often more expensive, whereas those with duller colors, fewer carats, or a poor cut can often be found at a lower cost.
Despite its value, natural diamond is still widely available around the world. Jewelers often stock loose rough or cut diamonds, or offer custom cut diamonds for special pieces. Natural diamonds of different shapes and sizes can also be found as part of collections from dealers, auction houses, and individuals.
