GB/T 8164-1993 Steel Strips for Welded Steel Pipes
This standard is applicable to the steel strips which are used for the manufacture of welded steel pipes.
1. Scope
This standard specifies the requirements for steel strips used for the manufacture of welded steel pipes.

3. Classification and code
The steel strips specified in this standard are classified according to the types of steel and chemical composition (see Table 1).

The ordering information for the steel strips specified in this standard contains the following items:
a) Information of this standard;
b) Type, specification and size of steel strips;
c) Chemical composition of steel strips (such as C, Mn, P, S, Si and Mo);
d) Required mechanical properties (see Table 2);
e) Non-destructive inspection and testing requirements;
f) Chemical prohibition and heat preservation requirements.

6. Mechanical properties
The mechanical properties required for the steel strips specified in this standard are shown in Table 2.

7. Inspection and test
The inspections and tests for the steel strips specified in this standard include a type inspection, chemical composition tests, mechanical properties tests, non-destructive inspection and tests, repair welding tests.
7.1 Type inspection
The type inspection for the steel strips specified in this standard includes the following items:
a) Requirements of appearance;
b) Length and width, line angle.
7.2 Chemical composition tests
The chemical composition tests for the steel strips specified in this standard are performed according to the provisions of GB222.
7.3 Mechanical properties tests
The mechanical properties tests for the steel strips specified in this standard are performed according to the provisions of GB/T228.
7.4 Non-destructive inspection and tests
The non-destructive inspection and tests for the steel strips specified in this standard are performed according to the provisions of GB/T310.
7.5 Repair welding tests
The repair welding tests for the steel strips specified in this standard are performed according to the provisions of GB/T388.
8. Marking and packing
The marking and packing for the steel strips specified in this standard are performed according to the requirements of B/T191.
9. Transportation and storage
The transportation and storage for the steel strips specified in this standard are performed according to the requirements of GB/T1000.
10. Pinholes
When necessary, the steel strips specified in this standard may be inspected for the presence of surface pinholes. If pinholes are found, the allowable limit for pinhole area ratio is 0.10%.
11. Sampling
The sampling for the steel strips specified in this standard is performed according to the provisions of GB/T864.
This standard was proposed by the State Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision.
This standard was drafted by the China International Standardization Technical Committee Welding Standardization Sub-committee.
This standard shall be effective on January 1, 1994.
