X11Cr11MoV Introduction
X11Cr11MoV is a corrosion-resistant stainless steel material, which is mainly used in applications that require good corrosion resistance and wear resistance. It is a modified version of X11Cr11MoV material, which is basically a carbon steel alloy with addition of small amount of chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium.
It is also known as UNS S42000. X11Cr11MoV is categorized under the family of ferritic stainless steel. It is used in a wide range of applications such as for weight-bearing components and components for building structure, for nuts, bolts and screws, for springs, for a steam engine valve, for automobile parts, for radiators, for roller bearings and for wear application.
Forms and Heat Treatment
X11Cr11MoV material is available in the form of sheets, plates, whiskers, bars, tubes, and wires. The composition of this material is mainly bainite and martensite with trace amount of ferrite. The atmospheric corrosion resistance of this material is enhanced by addition of small amount of copper.
Heat treatment of X11Cr11MoV is not required as the last forging step of its production process is enough to achieve the required mechanical properties. High temperature furnacing is often used to carry out annealing or stress relieving processes. The mechanical properties of X11Cr11MoV are listed in the following table.
Equivalent Materials
The equivalent material of X11Cr11MoV is SAE 430F. It is a type of ferritic stainless steels, popularly used due to its attractive combination of wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
Uses
X11Cr11MoV is mainly used in several applications that require wear resistance and corrosion resistance. It is mainly used for weight-bearing components and components for building structure, for nuts, bolts and screws, for springs, for a steam engine valve, for automobile parts, for radiators, for roller bearings and for wear application.
It is also used for the manufacture of roller rollers, ball nuts, and electrical connectors. In addition, it can be used to make seals and washers in order to provide protection from corrosion.
