Electric furnace magnesia carbon brick(usually abbreviated as magnesia carbon brick) is made of high qualitative magnesia, graphite as raw materials and shaped through high temperature smelting skill. It is mainly composed of magnesite and graphite. Magnesia carbon brick has extremely low density, high refractoriness, strong oxidation resistance and relatively good thermal shock resistance. It has special contact reaction behavior with molten steel, it will compose slag with steel-melting slag or combined with steel to form a molecular combination, so it plays the role of protecting furnace liner.
Electric furnace magnesia carbon brick can be divided into two types: oxidation resistance and reduction resistance. Oxidation resistance is mainly used for steel-melting water: slag forming process, such as submerged arc furnace, tubular electric furnace and oxygen top-blown converter. Reduction resistance mainly used for the metallurgical processing of copper, zinc and other non-ferrous metals and alloy pig iron, such as lead blast furnace top, copper smelter bottom and top and zinc conduction furnace
Electric furnace magnesia carbon brick is an important part of electric smelting furnace, with features of corrosion resistance, slag resistance, oxidation and reduction resistance, dense crystalline structure and strong anti-erosive strength, which can prolong service life of electric furnace, so it is widely used in electric furnace of steel, non-ferrous metals, chemical and machinery industry.
Electric furnace magnesia carbon brick has superior properties of thermal shock resistance and slag corrosion resistance. Slag reaction mechanism in a converter is mainly determined by the composition and ratio of magnesia carbon brick and the protective layers of slag, the combination of steel and slag, the nature and content of additives. The surface of electric furnace magnesia carbon brick will absorb a certain amount of slag, which makes furnace unable to keep clean, thus affecting the refining performance of steel. To reduce the absorption of slag and convergence, it’s usually to coat with alkaline low melting material. But this is not a permanent treatment, it also needs to regularly repair and renew the brick surface with minor maintenance.
