25Cr2MoV Application

25Cr2MoV is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy steel which is commonly used in applications requiring toughness and high strength. Due to its excellent strength and wear resistance properties, 25Cr2MoV is widely used in the aerospace, mining, oil, gas and petrochemical industries. In terms of its chemical composition, 25Cr2MoV contains between 0.15-0.25% chromium, 1.90-2.50% manganese, 0.10-0.35% molybdenum, 0.48-0.80% nickel, 0.30-0.40% vanadium, 0.60-1.00% silicon, 0.50% and 0.04-0.10% phosphorus and sulphur.

The high chromium and molybdenum content in 25Cr2MoV means that it has a great combination of strength and hardness. This combination means that 25Cr2MoV is often used in applications where parts are subjected to wear and tear, such as mining and oil exploration, where parts are regularly exposed to abrasive wear. The toughness of 25Cr2MoV also makes it ideal for use in applications where parts are subjected to impacts and vibrations, such as the aerospace industry, where 25Cr2MoV is used in aircraft engine components.

Due to its excellent strength and toughness properties, 25Cr2MoV is used to manufacture a number of components, such as drive shafts, roller bearings, fasteners, valves, gear wheels and pump bodies. 25Cr2MoV is also used in the manufacture of tools, as its strong wear resistance properties make it an ideal material for tools which are subject to a lot of wear, such as drill bits and saws.

25Cr2MoV can be forged and formed into various shapes and sizes, and can be easily machined using various cutting tools. 25Cr2MoV can also be heat treated to improve its strength and stiffness. 25Cr2MoV can be subjected to hardening and tempering, in order to increase its fracture toughness. 25Cr2MoV can also be subjected to just the tempering process in order to improve its overall ductility.

25Cr2MoV is also highly weldable, with its weldability being comparable to other steels with a similar chemical composition. Like other high-strength alloys, 25Cr2MoV should be welded using a low-hydrogen electrode, such as a 9018 electrode, as using a higher hydrogen electrode can lead to cracking in the weld.

25Cr2MoV is an extremely versatile alloy steel, and is used in a multitude of applications that require strength, toughness and wear resistance. 25Cr2MoV’s ability to be forged, machined, heat treated and welded means that it can be used in applications where other materials cannot. 25Cr2MoV is also easy to shape, and its high strength and wear resistance properties make it an ideal material for the manufacture of tools, engine components, fasteners and pump bodies.
