China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) is one of the largest universities in China. It was established in 1953 as the Central-south Institute of Mining and Technology (CSIMT). It was later renamed as China University of Geosciences in 1988. It is known for its research and education in geoscience and related fields.

The university has achieved great success in the fields of geology and geophysics. It is the only university qualified to confer doctorates in four engineering fields of surveying and mapping science, mining engineering, geology and geophysic engineering, and safety science and engineering. It is widely considered as one of the top universities for geoscience studies in China.

The university has three campuses in Wuhan, which are Huangjiahu, Mianshan, and Luojia. They are also known as the ‘Three Campuses of China University of Geosciences.’ The Mianshan campus is the main and oldest campus. It consists of Liulin, Zhongshan, and Changgong districts. The Mianshan campus emphasizes on teaching and research in surveying and mapping science, geology, geoinformatics, and spatial information engineering. The Huangjiahu campus mainly focuses on teaching and researching energy engineering and fuel chemical engineering. The main focus of the Luojia campus is mining engineering and safety science.

At present, the university has 17 schools, 8 departments, 38 undergraduate majors, and more than 20,000 students enrolled. It provides advanced study programmes and abundant research opportunities in fields of geology and geophysics. It is also a leading innovation center of geoscience research.

China University of Geosciences is also making great efforts to promote international exchanges and collaborations. It has established educational partnerships and joint research programs with more than 40 universities and research institutions from 18 countries. It also has conferences and engagements with many international academic organizations and universities.
