The Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) is the main stock exchange in Taiwan. It is located in Taipei and mainly trades securities listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, including stocks, exchange traded funds, warrants and other equity related products.

The Taiwan Stock Exchange is one of the oldest stock exchanges in Asia and was established in 1961. Currently, it has 861 listed companies. Its total market capitalization was around US$464 billion as of February 2019. As of October 2018, the benchmark indices of the exchange are the Taiwan Capitalization Weighted Stock Index (TAIEX) and the GreTai 50 Index.

The exchange has two major online trading systems. The Electronic Trading System (ETS) is used for stock trading and offers direct market access to brokerage firms. The GTSM (GreTai Securities Market) is a market for over-the-counter securities.

The Taiwan Stock Exchange is owned and operated by the Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation, a publicly traded corporation. It is overseen by the Financial Supervisory Commission, a non-partisan government agency. The Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation is also the largest shareholder of the Taiwan Futures Exchange Corporation.

TWSE plays an important role in the economic development of Taiwan. A vibrant stock market helps bring in new investment and keeps existing investors happy by providing an efficient way to invest and trade securities. The exchange also helps in the development of new products and services, such as the first international derivative offering in Asia.

The Taiwan Stock Exchange has a long history of technological innovation. It has been the first in Asia to offer Chinese language services for investors, direct access for international trading firms, and the adoption of electronic trading. As a result, the exchange has been awarded the prestigious “Most Innovative Stock Exchange” award by the World Federation of Exchanges in 2015.

The Taiwan Stock Exchange is an important part of the capital markets in Asia. It provides a competitive, efficient, and transparent platform for investors to buy and sell securities. The eligibility requirements for listing on the TWSE are generally in line with those of other major international exchanges, making it an attractive option for companies looking to raise capital.
