Bearing Surface Grinding Defects Causes and Countermeasures

Grinding is the most used method in the machining process of bearings and other parts. The purpose of grinding is mainly to refine the surface and reduce the surface roughness of the bearing surface. However, due to various factors, during grinding, various surface defects may occur, such as scratch or uneven surface. The study of the causes and countermeasures of these defects helps to improve the quality and efficiency of machining.

1. Causes of Bearing Surface Grinding Defects

The common surface defects of the bearing grinding process are: surface grinding, chipping, scratches, burning, holes and so on. The main causes of these defects are as follows:

(1) The grinding force is too large: The grinding force is too large and the grinding wheel is overloaded to form a groove on the surface of the bearing. Also, the large grinding force speeds up the grinding wheel abrasive wear and eliminate the boundary layers on both sides of the grinding wheel to generate a muddy grinding phenomenon.

(2) Poor grinding selection: Grinding is a cutting process, and the grinding wheel itself is the cutting tool. The selection of grinding wheel is related to the progress of grinding process. A wrong grinding wheel will lead to poor grinding efficiency and poor processing quality.

2. Countermeasures of Bearing Surface Grinding Defects

(1) Grinding force regulation: The grinding force should not be too large when grinding the bearing surface. When grinding, the grinding force should be adjusted according to the composition and properties of the grinding wheel and the bearing, so as to ensure the efficiency of the grinding wheel and the accuracy of the grinding surface of the bearing.
