China’s Forged Steel Grades

The forging and manufacture of steel are two major industries in China today. With the growth in production over the years, so too has there been an increase in the number of steel grades available to Chinese factories and producers. A large number of these are suitable for production and forging purposes. In this article, we provide an overview of some of the most commonly used Chinese forged steel grades.

Carbon Steel

Carbon steel is one of the most common materials used in forging. It is a strong, hard material with a high tensile strength, which makes it well suited to the forging process. Carbon steel is also very resistant to corrosion, rust and wear, making it suitable for use in a wide range of applications. The most common Chinese forged carbon steels are C45, C51, C53 and C60.

Alloy Steel

Alloy steel is also commonly used for forging operations. It is generally made from a blend of other elements, such as nickel and chromium, which makes it able to resist corrosion and wear even better than carbon steel. Commonly used Chinese alloy steels for forging include 4140 and 4142.

Tool Steel

Tool steel is a type of steel specifically designed for use as a tool material. It has a very high hardness, making it ideal for forging operations which require tools to withstand heavy use. Common tool steels used by Chinese manufacturers include H13 and H11.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is a special type of steel which contains a high level of chromium and other elements, making it highly resistant to corrosion. This makes it an ideal choice when a forged steel part needs to be kept in good condition even in damp or sweatly environments. Amongst the Chinese stainless steels are 304 and 316 grades.

Low Alloy Steel

Low alloy steels are steels which have a very small percentage of other elements added to increase their strength or other desirable qualities. The most common low alloy steels used in forging in China are 16Mn, 15MnV, 20Mn and 10MnSi.

China has one of the most extensive collections of forged steel grades in the world, and manufacturers are able to source these to suit any application. The grades mentioned above are just some of the more commonly used Chinese forged steel grades. Other grades include copper alloys, aluminum, and titanium, which are used in speciality applications. As a result, these can be used in almost any field where the strength of steel or other metals is desired.

No matter what application you are looking for forged steel for, it is likely that the Chinese manufacturers can provide you with the ideal grade and specifications. In short, when looking for a steel to be forged in China, look no further as the number of steel grades available is vast. Additionally, many of these are of excellent quality, something which you can be sure of when working with a reputable Chinese producer.
