Japan Heat-Resistant Steel Grading System
Heat-resistant steel is a type of steel alloy that can resist extremely high temperatures, making it particularly useful for applications that involve extreme thermal stress. In Japan, there is a specific system for grading and labeling the different types of heat-resistant steel, based on the standards set by the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS). This system helps producers, suppliers, and buyers easily identify the grade of heat-resistant steel they need.
In the Japanese heat-resistant steel grading system, the grade is usually shown as a number followed by an alphabet letter. The number has two parts: the first two digits refer to the tensile strength, and the last digit is the ratio of manganese (Mn) to silicon (Si). For example, the grade T11S is composed of the tensile strength 1100 and the Mn/Si ratio of 5:1.
The letter following the number is sometimes omitted, but it can be found in the last digit of the grade name. This letter denotes the type of steel alloy and can be C (cold rolled), H (hot rolled), or M (etching). For instance, the grade T91C is composed of the tensile strength 1100, a Mn/Si ratio of 5:1, and cold rolled type of heat-resistant steel.
The grade of the steel can be further identified with an additional letter, which typically indicates the release date or edition of the standard, as well as other features such as the application of specific strengthening treatment. For example, grade T91C-N denotes a cold rolled heat-resistant steel with a tensile strength of 1100, a Mn/Si ratio of 5:1, and a mechanical finishing (N).
Japan’s heat-resistant steel grading system has enabled producers, suppliers, and buyers to identify and acquire the appropriate type of steel alloy they need. This system has significantly streamlined and improved the processes involved in producing and distributing heat-resistant steel across the country. With its powerful capabilities, the Japanese heat-resistant steel grading system has made it possible for Japan to remain at the forefront of heat-resistant steel production.
