Design of Continuous Steel Casting Workshop

1 Introduction

Continuous casting is a production technology in the metallurgical industry. It is a process for the solidification of liquid steel into a certain shape and continuous production of billets or handicrafts. The entire process requires sufficient heating and cooling measures to ensure the normal operation of the production process and the performance of the product. At the same time, it is necessary to configure dust collectors, waste gas treatment and other dust removal systems in steel continuous casting workshops to meet the requirements of national environmental protection policy. This article will be based on the actual situation of the continuous casting workshop of the steel plant. The design of the continuous casting workshop will be discussed in detail below.

2 Design Requirements

(1) The design of the continuous casting workshop should meet the process requirements of steel continuous casting and environmental protection requirements of the steel plant;

(2) The design of the continuous casting workshop takes into account the following aspects: Overall layout of workshop, ventilation and dust removal systems, spraying cooling system and other necessary supporting measures;

(3) The noise of the workshop should be controlled within 85dB(A) and the temperature of the workshop should be controlled at the temperature range of 15~35℃.

3 Main Process Description

The main process of continuous casting is: The molten steel is preheated in the furnace, then poured into the ladle, and the temperature of the material is kept constant. Through the ladle car, the molten steel is conveyed to the tundish, where it is evenly fed into the mold through the tundish. The molten steel in the mold begins to solidify and forms a steel strand. The strand is cooled and cut of required length by the cutter. The cut billets are in turn transferred by the roller table to the secondary cooling zone or out of the workshop.

4 Design of Continuous Casting Workshop

4.1 Layout of Workshop

Taking into account the production process organization of continuous casting, the workshop should be divided into four parts according to the production process: raw material supply area, pre-heating primary cooling area and secondary cooling area. The workshop should be designed in a north-south direction to avoid sunlight interference with the temperature control in the workshop.

4.2 Dust Removing System

In order to meet the environmental protection requirements, it is necessary to design dust removal and sprinkler cooling system in the continuous casting workshop. The dust collecting system in the workshop should include a water curtain, a dry dust collector, an electrostatic dust collector and a bag filter dust collector. The sprinkler cooling system is installed above the continuous casting machine.

4.3 Ventilation and Cooling System

The ventilation and cooling system should provide constant air flow in the workshop to ensure sufficient cooling in the preheating and primary cooling areas and to remove smoke, dust and high temperature in the working environment. Fresh air need to be supplied to the workshop, and the exhaust air should be discharged to ensure that the temperature, humidity and quality of the air inside the workshop reach the requirements.

4.4 Lighting System

The lighting system mainly provides light source on the continuous casting machine and an overall light source for the workshop, and also provides a certain degree of light for the kiln.

5 Conclusion

The design of continuous casting workshop is closely related to overall production process and environment protection requirements. Adequate lighting, ventilation, dust removal and sprinkler cooling systems should be installed in the workshop. Proper layout of the workshop and equipment organization should also be taken into account to improve the production efficiency of the workshop.
