Analysis and Treatment of Common Faults in Mechanical Single-phase Electricity Meter

Abstract:Mechanical single-phase electricity meters are widely used in family households and commercial units due to their simple structure, good accuracy and low price. However, with the long-term use, mechanical single-phase electricity meter will encounter some common faults, such as pointer jamming, misreading, incomplete display and so on. This paper briefly introduces the common faults and causes of mechanical single-phase electricity meters, and how to analyze and treat them.

1. Introduction

With the development of science and technology, electric energy has been widely used in daily life, and the corresponding electric energy meter has also been popularized. As a kind of energy meter, mechanical single-phase electricity meter has many advantages, such as simple structure, good accuracy and low price. This series meters can accurately measure the accumulated electricity consumption, showing time and meter at a glance, which is convenient and intuitive. Mechanical single-phase electric meters have been widely used in family households and commercial units.

However, with the long-term use of mechanical single-phase electricity meters, some common faults, such as pointer jamming, misreading and incomplete display, will be found. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the common faults and the causes of mechanical single-phase electricity meters, so that maintenance and repair personnel can quickly and accurately judge the failure, analyze and determine the fault information, and give the appropriate maintenance and treatment measures.

2. Common Faults and Causes of Mechanical Single-phase Electricity Meter

(1) Pointer jamming and deviation. Pointer jamming is caused by moving parts of the spring system in the meter, especially the failure of acceleration weight, because the spring system failure of the acceleration weight is easy to jam the pointer. Besides, long-term sun could corrode and rust the components, resulting in pointer stuck and misreading. For pointer jamming, it can be solved by maintenance, cleaning and moisture-proofing, or replacing with new parts. Moreover, the misreading of pointer is usually caused by poor circuit connection or poor sensitivity of the meter, as well as mechanical interference, which can be solved by adjusting and replacing parts.

(2) Incomplete display. The incomplete display of mechanical single-phase electricity meter is generally caused by the poorly installed switch contact, inadequate lubrication of pointer, magnetic interference caused by the AC power supply, and other factors. When the above-mentioned faults occur, manual resetting is required to obtain the correct reading.

3. Analysis and Treatment of Mechanical Single-phase Electricity Meter

(1) Check the switch contact. Before testing and maintaining the mechanical single-phase electricity meter, firstly the manual connection and disconnection of the switch contact should be checked. The quality of the contact should be checked to ensure that the contact point is firm and reliable, and the contact point is located at the zero line of the rotation of the meter index when manual opening and closing.

(2) Calibration of the meter. To ensure the accuracy of the mechanical single-phase electricity meter, it is necessary to calibrate it regularly. In the calibration process, we will compare the set current divider or the setting current table attached to the meter with the actual displayed value of the meter, and divide or repair the meter if it is found that the value displayed by the meter is not consistent with the set value of the current divider or the setting current table.

(3) Check the environment of the meter. After the mechanical single-phase electricity meter is installed, the environment should be inspected from time to time, such as the position of the meter installation, the surrounding heat dissipation air passing through the meter, the vent of the meter, and the correctness of the wiring. In addition, attention should also be paid to whether there is water droplets or dust on the surface of the meter.

(4) Moisture-proof and maintenance. In the dry seasons, it should be maintained and moisture-proofed at ordinary times, to ensure that the metal parts will not be corroded by the humid environment, and that the mechanical single-phase electricity meter will not cause serious failures such as pointer jamming, misreading, incomplete display and so on.

4. Conclusion

This paper analyzes and describes the common faults and causes of mechanical single-phase electricity meters, and the analysis and treatment methods of these faults. Through the above analysis and treatment, we can quickly and accurately determine and analyze the faults of the meters, so as to maintain and repair the meters in time and provide reliable energy measurement services to users.
