Japan has been a leader in the production of high quality steel products in the world. The most essential element of the steel industry in Japan is its cold rolled steel sheet and strip steel. Medium carbon steels are classified as SPCM and high carbon steels are classified as SPCA.
The SPCA is the highest grade of cold rolled steel and has properties that are suitable for the production of metal parts that require very high levels of toughness and strength. This grade of steel is used for the production of components for automobiles, ships, and construction systems.
In Japan, many of the grades of cold rolled steel are also used for hot-dip galvanized steel products. The grades used for galvanizing typically range from SPCD to SPCA. Galvanizing not only increases the protection from corrosion and rust, it also increases the life of the product by preventing the steel from fracturing and becoming brittle.
