Beijing Jiachong Vision Xin Myopia Prevention and Control Research Center
Myopia is one of the most common eye conditions globally, which continues to worsen at an alarming rate. It affects more than 1.4 billion people and is expected to reach 5 billion by 2050. To address this growing issue, the Beijing Jiachong Vision Xin Myopia Prevention and Control Research Center was established in 2017.
The center strives to reduce the progression of myopia with an evidence-based approach that integrates multiple disciplines, including ophthalmology, education and psychology. Its main activities include the development and application of optometry technology, research initiatives, and public health campaigns.
The center was founded with a view to promote the health of children and teenagers. Its research focuses on understanding the underlying causes of myopia and the effects of environmental factors on its progression. The center also works to develop personalized prevention and intervention strategies that can be applied in clinical practice.
As part of its mission, the center works closely with universities, hospitals and other research institutes to foster collaboration and exchange knowledge. It has organized numerous conferences, workshops and seminars across the country to bring together national and international experts in the field of myopia prevention, control and management.
The center has an active partnership with the Ministry of Education to launch public health campaigns to educate students and their families on the health risks of long-term exposure to digital devices and blue light. In addition, it operates an online platform to provide the public with accessible resources on eye health and preventative measures.
The center is playing a pioneering role in myopia prevention. It is the first research center to formally adopt a national standard for children’s myopia management, supervising the overall preventive and therapeutic management of the disease. It also works closely with other education and health policy makers on initiatives to combat myopia in society.
The Beijing Jiachong Vision Xin Myopia Prevention and Control Research Center is actively leading the charge against myopia through research and implementation of evidence-based strategies. It is making progress toward improved diagnosis, prevention and intervention of this condition, with the ultimate goal of reducing the prevalence of progressive myopia.
