Abstract
Industrial casting steel parts are used in many fields of engineering and they are often subjected to many types of forces that could cause damage to the parts. To ensure these parts are durable and can withstand heavy loads, it is important to check them through penetration testing and defect display evaluation. This paper outlines GB 9443-88, a national standard for rating the penetration testing and defect display of casting steel parts. This standard is composed of three parts: general provisions; penetrative testing; and defect display. In general provisions, details on the technical requirements, test samples, test environment, inspection personnel, and other related aspects of the penetrative and defect display tests are provided. In penetrative testing, principles governing the location, resolution, exposure time and other aspects related to the testing process are detailed. Lastly, in defect display, criteria for the detection level, recognition and classification of defects is outlined. This paper provides an overview of GB 9443-88 and how it should be implemented in order to evaluate the penetration test and defect display of casting steel parts.
