GB/T 2517-1981 General Purpose Hot-Rolled Steel Plates and Strips Sizes, Shapes and Weights
GB/T 2517-1981 specifies the general purpose hot-rolled steel plates and steel strips’ size, shape and weights. The scope includes the plates and steel strips with normal rolling technique and blunt edges (i.e. without considering the cutting edge and chamferred existences on the side of the plate). The thickness of steel plate and steel strip of rolled products must be more than 4mm and less than 16mm. The width of steel strips can be up to 600mm.
This standard provides relevant requirements for the quality, mass and measurement of welded products. It also provides detailed size, shape and weights of the related products. Size, shape and weight of steel plates and strips are required to meet the specific standards. The standard states the requirement for the accuracy level of the product supplied to meet customers requirements.
The tolerances for the nominal size and normal weight of steel plates and strips are listed as below:
a. The steel plates and strips should meet the tolerance requirement of the nominal sizes and normal weights;
b. The deviation of thickness should be no more than 20% of the nominal size, and not more than the tolerance requirement of the nominal thickness;
c. The deviation of width should be no more than 0.6 mm;
d. The deviation of length should be no more than 0.5 mm.
In addition to the general purpose hot-rolled steel plates and steel strips, the standard also provides details for the tolerance of the edges and corners of the product. The tolerance of these edges and corners should meet the sizes listed in the standard.
This standard provides requirements not only on the technical requirements of the related product, but also on the packaging, marking, examination and testing. The package, marking, examination and testing should be conducted in accordance with the stipulated requirements of the standard.
In conclusion, GB/T 2517-1981 specifies the general purpose hot-rolled steel plates and steel strips’ size, shape and weights, establishes the tolerance of nominal size and normal weight of steel plates and strips. It also outlines the requirements for packaging, marking, examination and testing. This standard provides an important basis not only for customers in choosing the products, but also for producers in manufacturing them.
