Gou established the company in 1974 with just US$7,500. He has since transformed it into a major global corporation.

Under Gous leadership, Foxconn has become the largest electronics manufacturer in the world, producing items such as Apples iPhone and iPad, and the second largest information technology company in Taiwan, employing over a million people at its plants in China. Early life and education

Business career

Gou returned to Taiwan in 1974 and immediately established Foxconn Technology (also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co.), with US$7,500. While Foxconn at the time focused on assembling computer components, Gou later shifted its focus to manufacturing.

It quickly grew to become the largest electronics manufacturing company in the world, producing items such as Apples iPhone and iPad. Foxconn is also the largest international contract manufacturer in the world, employing over 1.2 million people at its plants in China.

Political career

Gou was one of the founders of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, which is responsible for the participation of Taiwanese athletes in the Olympics, and is now its chairman.

Gou also ran for the 2020 Taiwanese Presidential Elections, with the stated intention of bringing the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games to Taiwan. He dropped out of the race on April 15, 2020, citing the lack of political unity among right-wing parties, allowing current President Tsai Ing-wen to win re-election.
