FANUC Main Axis Drive System Common Faults Analysis
Introduction
The main axis drive system examples of a machine tool, robot or industrial robot are driven by the Fanuc main axis drive system. The main axis drive system consists of three key components: the motor, the controller and the vibration sensor. This paper presents a general analysis on the common faults of Fanuc main axis drive systems by discussing the fault of each component.
Motor Faults
The motor is an integral part of the Fanuc main axis drive system and needs to be shielded to protect it from the environment and dust particles that could damage the motor. The fault problems of the motor mostly include overheating, incorrect spinning speed and bearing wear. Overheating: This can be caused by the overload of the motor, malfunction of the overheating protection system, too high working environment temperature or too frequent starting of the motor. The symptoms are higher-than-normal temperature and noise. Incorrect spinning speed: This can be caused by the unbalanced weight and shape of the workpiece, incorrect voltage, external centrifugal force or too much load. The symptom is the motor screening speed does not match with the command. Bearing wear: Bearing wear is caused by insufficient lubrication or too much dust in the motor. The symptoms include increasing noise and overheat.
Controller Faults
The main control of the main axis drive system is the controller. Common fault problems of the controller usually include misoperation, communication failure and overheat. Misoperation: This can be caused by the users action, incorrect wiring of the wiring or wrong setting of the parameter. The symptom is the machine cannot respond properly when operated. Communication failure: This can be caused by the incorrect parameter setting, disconnection of the wiring or malfunction of the system. The symptom is the communication between the main and the driver cannot be established. Overheat: This can be caused by the overload or breakout of the system. The symptom is the temperature of the driver is too high and it will shut off automatically.
Vibration Sensor Faults
The vibration sensor is used to detect the vibration of the main axis drive system. The most common faults of the vibration sensor are false alarm and wrong detection. False alarm: This can be caused by incorrect setting of the sensitivity of the sensor or the existence of too much noise in the environment. The symptom is the sensor will alert when there is no significant vibration. Wrong detection: This can be caused by incorrect setting of the sensitivity of the sensor or the existence of too much noise in the environment. The symptom is the sensor will not alert when there is significant vibration.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the common faults of the Fanuc main axis drive system include motor overheating, incorrect spinning speed, bearing wear, misoperation of the controller, communication failure, overheat and false alarm of the vibration sensor. It is important to identify these common faults in order to prevent damage to the system, prolong its service life and improve its performance.
